Having fun with old friends from college in Union Square on Thursday, July 17, 2008.

My friend from Japan was visiting so we had a blast. I plan on visiting her in Japan soon! I am praying on it.

My friend happened to be the first Japanese American student at Spelman College from 1993-1997. She is a dear and I am thankful for our years of friendship.

My mother's sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, celebrated its 100th anniversary this year and their annual convention was in Washington, DC. She participated in the convention this past week. I think she had a blast. My Mom has been a member of AKA for 50 years since she was 18!

I am very proud of her accomplishments for AKA gave her a platform to work with while she was in college in developing the dynamic woman she is today.

What's the closest thing you have to a time machine?

Memories from my past and the library to research life before I was born. I find the music and spoken word media I have in Cd format, cassette tape and vinyl to be an invaluable source of information for me or anyone interested in learning about the past.

Visiting a museum to learn about the past world too is one of the time machine's that I use to know what was life like before my existence.

The best time machine is listening to a senior citizen share their personal stories of what life was like in the past. I am always enlightened!

Chicago and the Chicago political scene have long been said to be the playground of an assortment of unsavory politicians, corrupt and crooked public officials, shady hustlers and Mafioso old school gangsters (e.g. Sam Giancana, Al Capone, Bugs Moran) and their modern day prodigy (crews that go by names like Latin Kings, Vice Lords and Gangster Disciples). However, the recent comments whispered by aging Civil rights leader and longtime activist Rev. Jesse Jackson into an open microphone, to another guest on a Fox network program, to castrate presidential hopeful Barack Obama was the epitome of Windy City gangsterism.

At my favorite newsstands, the comments were the same. "This must be some issue, people are calling and asking if it's in. We're being asked to reserve multiple copies, which never happens!" they said. "Wow!" I thought. Highly anticipated seemed to be putting it mildly.
